An introduction to orbital welding

Orbital welding in a nutshell.

TIG orbital welding is a special version of the tungsten inert gas arc welding (TIG). The main difference lies in the mechanisation of the process.

During the weld process, the electric arc moves in a circular pattern (orbit) around a fixed tube or pipe fitting. Welding tools of different designs, such as the orbital weld pliers or orbital welding head carry the wolfram electrode or TIG torch. The pulse technology jointly with a state-of-the-art inverter and control technology enable the controlled management of the weld pool in all positions.

Applications at a glance:

  • Tube-to-tube connections
  • Tube-to-tube sheet connections
  • Attachment of flanges and fittings

This mechanic ensures a high reproducibility with a minor error rate and a gapless documentation. Orbital welding is implemented for the highest quality requirements on the weld joint.
