Precise Cut

S-LT TUBE SAWS

Rube Saw: Precise Tube Cutting

Precise Tube Cutting for Perfect Welds

Sharp edges or irregularities on the tube ends can result in welding defects. Our tube saws enable precision cuts without deforming or damaging the tubes. A clean 90° saw cut with edges that are free of burrs and irregularities is the basic prerequisite for correct joint preparation in orbital welding. Save time and additional work with an efficient cutting process by using our powerful tube saws with electric drive.

Tube Saws for Every Tube Diameter

Tube Saws for Every Pipe Diameter

The saws are used for assembly and are also often needed for repairs. It is important to select a tube saw that is suitable for your field of work and of course for the outer diameter of the tubes that you primarily work with. Our product range includes powerful high-quality machines that can make precision cuts at exactly 90 degrees, which is the basic prerequisite for all orbital welds. Our robust tube saws are suitable for almost any wall thickness. We offer our customers a range of various saws for different dimensions so that you can always find the right orbital tube saw for your application. Cutting blocks with quick-lock system (dies) and accessories such as saw blades complete our range.

Questions & answers about tube saws

Yes. Due to the concentric gripping of the clamping jaws at 0°, 90°, 180°, and 270°, the tube is stabilized all around. Slight ovalities are compensated, and the tube remains dimensionally stable during cutting.

Yes. In these industries, tubes with electropolished inner surfaces are often used, which are particularly sensitive to chips. The S-LT removes chips during cutting using an integrated brush, largely preventing scratches inside the tube.

Yes. In these industries, thin-walled stainless steel tubes are often processed, requiring deformation-free clamping. The S-LT uses clamping jaws and reducing jaws made of stainless steel, ensuring that tubes are securely clamped and preventing material contamination.

The S-LT tube saw is a motorized machine for precise perpendicular cuts and beveling operations. It delivers reproducible results, is suitable for larger wall thicknesses, and is ideal for professional weld seam preparation in series production. In contrast, the Quick-Lock system is a manual tube cutting tool. It can be used without additional clamping equipment and enables fast 90° cuts (with an angle grinder or reciprocating saw) directly on-site when machine setup is not possible.

Concentric clamping means that multiple clamping jaws fix the tube evenly all around without deformation. This is essential for precise 90° cuts. The S-LT tube saw uses the concentric clamping principle with 4–6 stainless steel clamping jaws.

Clamping jaws are half-shells made of stainless steel that securely fix tubes without deformation. They are a component of all S-LT tube saws.

A vise causes indentations, ovality, and deformation. The tubes become unusable because they can no longer be precisely aligned or welded.

Material variations, especially in sulfur content or wall thickness, change the cutting behavior and affect subsequent weldability. Ovality and manufacturing tolerances also directly impact cutting precision. The S-LT tube saw counteracts this with its concentric clamping system using 4–6 stainless steel clamping jaws, which stabilizes the tube and prevents deformation during cutting.

An angled cut prevents the precise alignment of two tubes. This leads to gap formation, poor root weld quality, and unstable welding parameters. Only a perfectly perpendicular, burr-free cut ensures a high-quality orbital weld seam.

When cutting with the S-LT orbital saw, the saw blade rotates 360° around the tube. It follows the tube cross-section and enables an even, deformation-free cut.

The cutting speed of the S-LT tube saw is variably adjustable. The machine is equipped with an adjustable rotary dial that allows the saw speed to be set individually. The adjustment range is between 50 revolutions per minute (rpm) and 120 rpm. This allows the cutting speed to be optimally adapted depending on the material, tube diameter, and application requirements, ensuring clean cuts and efficient machining.

The S-LT tube saw stands out in terms of safety especially due to its well-designed operation. The machine's motor is operated via a handwheel, allowing the operator to maintain a safe distance from the saw blade. This keeps the hands deliberately away from the rotating blade during operation, significantly reducing the risk of injury.

This method of operation not only provides more precise control over the cutting process but also increases overall safety, as the user can guide the machine in a controlled manner without coming into close proximity to the hazard area. This ensures a safe and efficient workflow.

The S-LT tube saw is a specialized saw for tubes. The tube is firmly clamped in the machine, usually with 4–6 clamping jaws, keeping it stable and precisely aligned during cutting. This results in a precise, perpendicular 90-degree cut, which is particularly important for orbital welding. In addition, the concentric clamping system prevents the tube from deforming during cutting.

A conventional band saw, on the other hand, is a universal cutting machine for various workpieces (square, oval, and round). It is not specifically designed for tubes and therefore usually offers less precision when cutting them.

A pipe cutter, in contrast, works with a cutting wheel that rotates around the tube and is gradually pressed more tightly against it, which can lead to deformation. After cutting, the end face must be re-faced before orbital welding can be performed.

Reducing jaws enable the clamping of smaller tube diameters within the saw’s working range.

Depending on the application, different tools are suitable for weld seam preparation compatible with orbital welding. In many cases, a PLANFIX tube end preparation machine such as the Planfix 40 S or 115 S is required to precisely face or bevel tubes, especially when perfectly perpendicular end faces are required. For light burrs or smaller diameters, it is often sufficient to deburr the inside and outside to prepare the cut edges cleanly for welding. The specific tools required always depend on the material, wall thickness, and the requirements for the subsequent orbital weld seam. We would be happy to advise you personally.
